Leper Care

The Leper Rehabilitation Center is situated at a distance of 25 kilometers from Coimbatore at a place called Marudhamalai. It came into existence in the year 1984 under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Job Gnanaprakasam.

In the year 1984, about 30 families consisting of 79 persons migrated from Government Leprosy Rehabilitation Center at Sathyamangalam to Leper Rehabilitation Center at Marudhamalai. At that moment, they did not have any appropriate place of shelter, thus, compelling them to take refuge in sheds. On seeing their pathetic condition, Rev. Dr. Job Gnanaprakasam made up his mind to build concrete houses for 16 families. With his strong determination, he was able to make his dreams come true and ultimately, the houses were dedicated on 5th February 2000 with Mr. G. Santhanam, the then Collector for Coimbatore District, being the Chief Guest.

Besides this, all the leper families are provided with monthly provisions like grocery and other essential items. The leper families and their children are presented with new dresses on Christmas and New Year. Good and healthy food is provided on these occasions. The children belonging to the leper families are imparted with all facilities for their education like notebooks, shoes and uniforms.

The Leprosy is not contagious and therefore their children are safe. The children are being mainly focused on their upliftment. The lepers go through a regular medical check up. As of now, all the lepers have been healed completely from leprosy, except ten lepers. The lepers do not have any occupation. Our dream is to engage them in some occupation which will fit them.
