TN Flood Relief

Last year, in the beginning of December 2005, cyclones emerged one after another in the Bay of Bengal, which resulted in the continual lashing of non-stop rains in more than 15 districts of Tamil Nadu. Heavy rains had caused the flooding of riverbeds and canals in the district and as a result they overflowed into the villages and cities in addition to the rain water. And so more than 2500 villages were totally submerged under water for several days.

Share In Asia has come forward to help 10 districts which had been most badly affected. An initial amount of 2 lakhs was given to the victims and later on seeing the intensity of the disaster, the financial support was increased up to 25 lakhs to rebuild 596 new huts for the believers and to reconstruct 14 new churches and to repair some of the Social Workers' houses. Many more houses and churches are being rebuilt and repaired.
